Welcome Letter for New Readers · Published 2025-06-06 at 12:30 AM

Dear Reader,

Welcome to my new publication, Macroblog. I’m honored to have you here.

On June 1, 2025, I challenged myself to write a new piece of long-form writing every day. As of this writing it’s day six. I’m still learning how writing and publishing work so it’s my hope that you’ll be patient with me as I do.

It’s too early for me to commit to an editorial direction for the publication but I can share some of my interests here to give you an idea of what to expect:

  • Knowledge, its acquisition, and its organization.

  • The craft of writing.

  • The visual arts, music, and movies.

  • Graphic design, industrial design, and architecture.

  • The design and engineering of land, sea, air, and space vehicles.

I have many, many more interests. We’ll see what filters into my writing.

On Tuesday I wrote about Mortimer Adler’s reorganization of the Encyclopedia Britannica, how it inspired the name Macroblog, and how there will be a parallel Microblog with short-form writing. It will likely consist of cast-off bits from Macroblog posts but time will tell. I’ve been surprised by what I’ve learned from only five days of long-form writing and I expect a similar experience with short-form writing.

My initial plan was to host Microblog on X, but now I’m thinking of using Substack Notes. I’ve enjoyed using Substack so leaning in feels like the right choice.

Know that I value your time and appreciate your readership. Please let me know if you have feedback on my writing or just say “hello” by sending me an email.

Thank you,

Eric
